How it all came to be!

Last November, the Lehigh Valley Arts Council (LVAC) held its inaugural “Art for Everyone” fund-raiser auction, which raised nearly $16,000 for local artists and the local arts community, attracting over 200 participants and some very spirited bidding.

The focus of the auction was to offer fine art that was “local” and “affordable.” To anchor the auction’s focus,  the Arts Council commissioned John Gaydos, a well-known local artist, to paint his perspective of one of our primary sponsors, “Yocco’s, the Hot Dog King”, a local business with roots in our community for over 80 years.

After the auction the Iacocca family (founders and still owners of Yocco’s) asked LVAC to publish a limited edition serigraph based on the original painting entitled “Hot Dog.” As a result, the Arts Council met with John Gaydos and Curlee Holton, founder of the Experimental Printmaking Institute at Lafayette College, and an agreement was reached to publish a signed and numbered edition of 150 serigraphs in addition to 15 artist proofs. This is the only edition that will ever be printed, and all plates will be destroyed after the edition is signed and numbered by the artist.

Proceeds from the sales of these prints are part of the fund-raising efforts of the Arts Council, enabling the organization to continue its work to promote the arts throughout the community and in education, encourage and support artists and their development, and engage the community in arts commerce and arts-related issues.

If you aren’t yet a member of the Arts Council, we’d love to have you join us. Please see the Join tab above for more information.
