Why are the arts vital to our society? For starters, they make a huge impact on student performance—they help create
tomorrow’s leaders. In fact, test scores in art-centered schools are on the rise, and students who employ the artistic process across the curriculum experiment, collaborate, and innovate. The Lehigh Valley Arts Council invites you to share your philosophies, questions, and successes with national leaders on Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Growing Up Artfully, an arts-in-education forum, from 3:30 to 8:00 pm at Penn State Lehigh Valley in Center Valley.
Renowned researcher and educator Eric Booth will deliver the keynote address and serve on a panel about putting theory into practice. Mr. Booth was the facilitator for the National Arts Policy Round Table Report, a collaboration between Americans for the Arts and Sundance Preserve that addresses these issues and the power of arts education to prepare young people for leadership in a thriving society.
Susan Hall, Media Specialist, and Julienne Hogarth, Visual Arts Specialist of Akron’s National Inventors Hall of Fame School will present the arts integration strategies that were cited in Newsweek‘s 2010 report on teaching creativity. They will also discuss the community partnerships that are essential to their school’s success.
After Eric Booth’s keynote remarks, the day will conclude with the presentation of the Linny Fowler Growing Up Artfully Awards for k-12 programs that bring quality arts experiences to our students and community.
